The Prince George's Audubon Society leads mid-week bird walks every 1st and 3rd Thursday at the Luther Goldman Birding Trail.  In the fall and winter months (Sept. - March) walks will begin at 3:00 PM, and in the spring and summer months (April - August) they will start at 6:00 PM.  Meet at the parking lot at Berwyn Road and Ballew Ave. in Berwyn Heights (see map and directions).  For beginners and experts.  Bird checklist available.  No reservations needed.  Contact Dave Mozurkewich at  mozurk@verizon.net or 301-509-2212 for more information.

PGAS-sponsored Saturday morning bird walks to two areas of Patuxent River Park co-managed by PGAS and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission

Governor Bridge Natural Area
This park features mature woodlands and open water wetland that can feature migrant warblers, Barred Owls, and the occasional Yellow-crowned Night Heron. This park offers a wide variety of habitats -- mature riparian woodlands, second growth scrub, open grassy fields, and small ponds and creeks.
FUNA walks take place on the 1st Saturday of the month: GBNA walks take place on the 3rd Saturday of the month:
Sept. 1, Oct. 6, Nov. 3, and Dec. 1
Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, and Dec. 15

WHEN:
Tuesday, September 18
WHERE: Jug Bay Natural Area
WHAT:
Sunset pontoon boat trip on the Patuxent River at Jug Bay to observe Sora and other rails, Least Bittern, maybe some migrating songbirds, and other specialties of this freshwater wild rice marsh.

The boat will depart the dock promptly at 4:30 PM.  Meet at the boat launch area of Jackson's Landing at Patuxent River Park, Croom, MD by 4:15 pm.
WHO:
Trip will be led by Naturalist Greg Kearns of Patuxent River Park. Boat fee: $5 for residents of Prince George's or Montgomery Counties; all others $7. Come early for bathroom stop, and have $5 (or $7) cash ready.

Limited to 20 participants; for reservations (required) contact Marcia Watson (marshwren50@comcast.net). Open to members of the Prince George's County Audubon Society and Patuxent Bird Club only, except as space may be available.

Sunday, September 30
WHERE: Patuxent Research Refuge, South Tract

Meet at 8 am visitor center.
WHAT:
One of a series of walks to explore the seasonal variations in bird use of the habitats at South Tract.   Be prepared to walk up to 2 miles. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle.

WHEN:
Sunday, October 14
WHERE: Patuxent River in Southern PG County

Meet at 7:30 am at the small parking area near the historic flying field (Columbia Air Center)
memorial near the end of Croom Airport Road.
WHAT:
This trip will visit a few less-birded areas along the Patuxent focusing on sparrows and other late migrant songbirds. The route will depend on what areas have good habitat this year.   Bring a lunch/snacks since we will not finish up until early afternoon.

Meet at 9 am at the Park Office, on the right as you enter the park on Point Lookout Rd.
